Every spring, Tallahassee holds a big parade with floats and sirens and marching bands. Adults dress up as pirates, large pieces of tropical fruit and, of course, lots of women in hoop skirts.
My favorite are the Caribbean carnival dancers. Some floats are not so friendly, like the War and Reconstruction Krewe or the Sons of the Confederacy, complete with speakers blasting "Dixie." But where else can you have a Chinese dragon and men dressed as Spanish Conquistadores? Only in Tallahassee.
